JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Contract Manager your primary objectives as Active Communities Manager will be
● To develop innovative interventions and programmes that reduce gaps in participation in sport and physical activity amongst residents of the Vale of Glamorgan
● To contribute to achieving Sport Wales and the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s vision for health and wellbeing by creating new, and further developing existing sport and physical activity opportunity, with a focus on increasing sustainable participation amongst the least active groups
● To implement the Active Communities Strategy that maximises the commercial returns from the Leisure Centres and reflects the needs to the community
● To identify external funding sources and to actively apply for external funding to develop and deliver the programmes
You will focus day to day on the following tasks
● To work in conjunction with local sports development officers, Public Health, third sector partners and community organisations to ensure all activities compliment and link to the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Sport Wales’ vision for opportunities
● To maximise participation and use of the centre's including all courses and activities
● To meet and liaise, on a formal and informal level, with the client, the community, user and non-user groups
● To assist in the marketing and publicity of all activities and events and develop distribution networks for promotional materials and merchandising of products. Including corresponding with clubs, groups and individuals
● To track & report on the results
● To recruit, induct and support casual coaches, ensuring they deliver quality sessions and adhere to Legacy Leisure's policies and procedures
● To actively participate in developing a positive Health and Safety culture across the Leisure Centres
● To work closely with the local management teams
THE CANDIDATE
The post-holder will have a recognised qualification in Leisure Management, Sports Development or a related subject
One or more years in a sports development role
One or more years of experience in supervising or managing a team

● Hands on manager capable of managing a small team of dedicated and highly motivated staff
● The ability to achieve agreed business targets by planning short, medium and long term strategic actions
● Effectiveness in identifying problems, seeking relevant data, recognising important information and diagnosing possible causes and solutions
● Customer focused
● Competent IT Skills
The post is subject to a DBS check. The hours will be Monday to Friday but flexibility will be required occasionally at weekend and evening.
